It was so sweet. With Roper on the swim and Bryan (Roper's very fast cyclist friend), I could walk the run and still win. We were shooting for first place overall at the Clif Bar Relay Team challenge.
We even picked "Got Linux?", a very Computer-geekish team name, just so we could rub it in the faces of those big jocks who never chose us in PE classes!! Ok.... maybe that's just me.
BANG, the swimmers were off. Standing at the shore I bragged to a buddy how Roper is going to lead the swim. I even made fun of this swimmer who went waaaay off course (a kayak had to chase him down!).
And Matt came in second... We had a faster T1, however, so our team was still leading the race. After the hand off, Matt said, "dude, I went waaaay off course and a kayak had to chase me down!"
Bryan lived up to his reputation. Got 1:30 on the field after loop one. Got 3:00 on the field at T2. "Got Linux" was leading! Boosted by the awesome performances before me, I was pumped for the run!
I saw no one behind me after mile 1. I saw no one behind me after mile 2. At 2.5 miles, I started wondering.... "hmmm... I thought the run is 5 miles, but it sure looks a lot longer". I got lost!!
The announcer really talked up our team in T2, so when I got back on the course, people were like "congratulations on your win, you came out for a warm down?" "No, I got lost." I repeated that phrase to various people throughout the run. Wasn't one of my proudest moments.
Fortunately, thanks to my teammates, we pulled off 3rd for Men's relay. Sorry, guys....
There were 2 other Davis team out there, a women's (Davis Fleet Feet) team lead by Nikki, and a co-ed team lead by.... Roper. That's right, Matt was racing for 2 teams. Swimmer for ours, and runner for the other. It looks like our swimmer has turned into a fast triathlete!
Thanks for reading, bonne nuit.
